Upper East Side Modern Sanctuary

A modern living room corner designed by Avery Johnson Design, with a green velvet swivel chair, a small round side table with a gold base, and shelves behind holding plants, books, and decorative objects. Light wood flooring and neutral tones create a cozy, stylish atmosphere. A modern dining area designed by Avery Johnson Design features a wooden table with two light wood chairs, one upholstered and one with a curved backrest. A ceramic bowl with autumnal flowers sits on the table. Abstract art pieces hang on the wall above light wood floors.
 Testimonial:

Despite my husband and I having different tastes, Avery crafted a design that spoke to both of us, capturing our individual styles and wishlists perfectly. His understanding of client needs is truly remarkable, and he is both assertive and clear in his vision. We felt confident trusting his expertise every step of the way.

This project transformed the common areas of a luxury Upper East Side rental for a professional couple with distinct styles. The goal: a serene personal retreat that could also host work functions, dinners, and intimate gatherings with ease.

Custom furniture and built-ins anchored the design. Guests are welcomed by a century-old Japanese low table—a grounding piece that sets the tone. In the main living area, a curved white oak built-in echoes the apartment’s original architecture, while a sculptural lamp by British artist Paul Cocksedge casts an ethereal glow and sparks conversation.

Near the dining area, a cozy nook invites quiet moments—perfect for coffee, reading, or reflection.

Every detail was designed with intention, resulting in a home that’s both refined and relaxed. Elevated yet inviting, it’s a quiet luxury in the heart of the city.
